Bitter blow to meath as newman sustains injury

Meath forward Mickey Newman looks extremely doubtful to feature for Meath in their opening Leinster SFC encounter against Wicklow on the Sunday 14th June at Pairc Tailteann because of injury.

The Kilmainham player injured his hand in training last night and according to a source close to the Meath camp he will be out for at least six weeks.

The news is a huge blow to Meath and their manager Mick O’Dowd as Newman is one of the team’s most prolific forwards and would be almost certain to start against the Garden County if fit.

Newman has scored 2-32 for the Royal County so far this year as Meath narrowly missed out on promotion from the NFL Div 2.
