Voting ends tonight in doodle4google

Public voting ends at midnight tonight in the annual Doodle 4 Google competition where children create their own designs using the Google logo. A record 5,000 entries were received and whittled down to just 75, including six children from Meath, who have the chance of being named Ireland’s top doodler and having their doodle displayed on the Google Ireland homepage.

The following Meath students are among 75 regional finalists in with a chance of winning the competition:

Lucy May Casey, St Patrick’s National School, Stackallen, Navan (Group 1); Grace Kelly, O’Growney National School, Athboy (Group 1); Laura Gavin, Scoil Bhride, Clonee (Group 2); Anya Clarke Carr, Ratoath National School, Ratoath (Group 3); Sarah Sturzel, Ratoath College, Ratoath (Group 5); Katie Byrne, Ratoath College, Ratoath (Group 5).

The panel of judges who had the difficult task of selecting the 75 finalists included Irish and Leinster rugby star, Jamie Heaslip, legendary artist and TV presenter, Don Conroy, artist and IADT Dun Laoghaire lecturer, Cora Cummins and Niamh Sharkey, author and Creator and Executive Producer of Disney Junior’s animated series, Henry Hugglemonster.

Members of the public can now vote for their favourite Doodle on www.google.ie/doodle4google.

Voting will close at midnight on 20th March. The five most popular doodles, one from each age category, will go forward to the Grand final where the overall winner will be chosen by the official Google doodle team based in Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California.

Ronan Harris, VP, Sales and Operations, said “The level of entries to this year’s competition was astounding and it gave our judging panel a tough job to do. I really enjoyed seeing what ‘My Perfect Day’ meant to the entrants and everyone should be very proud of their doodles. Now it’s up to the public to get involved and help choose this year’s winner. So I’m urging everyone to go to the website www.google.ie/doodle4google and vote for their favourite doodle.”

The overall winning doodler will have their doodle featured on the Google.ie homepage for a full day in April 2015. They will also receive a €5,000 scholarship towards their third-level studies, a Chromebook laptop, and a €10,000 technology grant for their school. Each of the five class group winners and their teachers will also be presented with a Chromebook each.
