Fagan leads home huge field in bohermeen event

There was a huge turnout of runners from all over Ireland for the Meath Spring Half-Marthon at Bohermeen today. 

The races attracted a big number of entries and was won in highly impressive style by former Olympic marathon runner Martin Fagan in a time of  one hour, five minutes and 42 seconds. 

The Mullingar Harriers man was followed home by Star of the Sea's Eoin Callaghan who crossed the line in one hour, eight minutes and 59 seconds.

This was a tremendous display by Callaghan who finished ahead of Peter Mooney (Inverse). Mooney's time was one hour, 12 minutes, 57 seconds.  

The first woman home was Olympian Pauline Curley (Tullamore Harriars) in one hour, 19 minutes, 31 seconds.

In the Meath championship Trim AC's Sean Murphy was the first athlete home in the men's category in a time of one hour, 15 minutes, 55 seconds.

The winner of the women's race in the Meath championship was Karen Lavelle (Star of the Sea). She crossed the line in one hour, 27 minutes, 14 seconds. 

The curtain raiser to the half-marathon was the 10k race won by Colm O'Connor (Donore Harriers) iin 34 minutes, 16 seconds. The best of the Meath athletes was Bohermeen's Derek Croal who finished fourth with a run of 35 minutes, 54 seconds. 

The day's events were smoothly run by a big contingent of Bohermeen AC officials with the races watched by a large number of spectators.
