St patricks day halfmarathon launched in mullingar

RTE presenter Kathryn Thomas launched the Mullingar Half Marathon, taking place this St Patrick's Day, 17th March. The event will add a new exciting aspect to the Westmeath town’s St Patrick's Day celebrations as well as helping to raise vital awareness and funds for their chosen charity ISPCC Childline.

The Half Marathon organising committee is committed to creating a fun, enjoyable and well organised race that will become a firm fixture on the racing calendar every year. It is also hoped that this inaugural event will help raise significant funds for Childline, Ireland only 24 hour listening service for young people across Ireland.

‘We will be donating all proceeds from the event to help Childline and their efforts to maintain this vital service’ explains Jason McCabe, Mullingar Half Marathon organiser. ‘Childline receives over 1800 calls and messages per day, a number of which are answered by volunteers here in their Mullingar office. We are delighted our event can support this important national organisation that is also making significant local impacts.’

Speaking on behalf of the ISPCC Nicola MacDermott said: ‘We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Mullingar Half Marathon committee for choosing to support our Childline service. We vitally need these funds to ensure we can continue to support young people across Ireland. We wish the very best of luck to all entrants and encourage any fitness enthusiasts to sign up to get involved.”’

Entries to the Mullingar Half Marathon are coming in fast and it is promising to be an incredible event. Entries however are limited for this year’s event and participants are encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment. Registrations are still open online via www.precisiontiming.net where runners can avail of the special online entry fee of €30.
