Jim sheridan to interview john carney in schull

May's Short Film Festival in Schull has announced the inclusion of Jim Sheridan and John Carney in the line-up. From Wednesday the 20th to Sunday the 24th of May 2015, the Cork town will play host to in excess of 300 short films. Filmmakers, directors, producers and invited industry experts all share their knowledge and experience over the four days of the festival. This year’s exciting programme will also include Lenny Abrahamson among other industry experts yet to be announced.

John Carney will screen one of his films and Jim Sheridan will interview him following the screening. John’s latest film in Post Production is ‘Sing Street’, described as ‘a semi-autobiographical tale inspired by the filmmaker’s love of music’. Set in 1980s recession-ridden Dublin, it tells the story of 14-year-old Cosmo who finds life at home difficult. He decides to forms a band with some schoolmates. When family trouble strikes, he runs away to London with his 15-year-old girlfriend who aspires to be a model. Starring Jack Reynor, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Aidan Gillen.

Jim is currently working in Dublin and Kilkenny on ‘The Secret Scripture’, the screen adaption of the 2008 bestselling novel by Sebastian Barry and featuring an all-star cast including Rooney Mara, Jack Reynor, Erica Bana, Vanessa Redgrave, Jeremy Irons and British actor Theo, who is best know for The Inbetweeners. Roseanne, uncertain of her age, recounts her experiences in asylums in Ireland over 60 years.

This Short Film Festival without a Cinema invites you to explore alternatives throughout the village of Schull, providing those who attend with a totally new cinematic experience. ‘Distributed Cinema’ is Schull’s very own intranet network dedicated to short film. Films are screened in over 15 venues, from a bookshop to an art gallery, a craft shop to the village hall, numerous local pubs and restaurants. Schull’s network connects, through Ethernet cable and wireless, to its own short film archive on a dedicated server. Anyone with a smartphone, laptop or iPad can also access the server through Wi-Fi anywhere on the main street and watch any of the 7 years of submission films any time of the day or night. Visitors can also take a short ferry ride to the Long Island cinema to watch submission shorts and enjoy a corona.
