Concession of late goals proves costly for royal county side

There was disappointment for Meath when they conceded a late goal and lost out by 1-11 to 2-9 to Kildare in the Ladies National Football League Div 2 at Ratoath today.

The teams were close throughout what was a highly competitive contest however the concession of that goal scored by Kildare's Grace Clifford proved costly.

At the break the sides were level, 1-4 apiece, with the impressive Vikki Wall netting for the home side and Triona Duggan finding the target for the Lilywhites from a penalty.

Wall ended up with 1-5 while Laura Murray fired over four points, two from frees.

Geraldine Doherty came on as a substitute and put in a big performance to help Meath stay in contention right up to the closing stages. She bagged two points.

Shauna Ennis and Emma Troy were two other players who impressed as they bombed forward from defensive positions at regular intervals.

In what was much changed team from last year Meath sought to move the ball at pace and at times they had the Kildare defence under considerable pressure however, the visitors displayed a sharper cutting edge in attack.

Meath were in front for a lengthy spell in the second-half but were rocked back on their heels by Clifford's goal.

This was Diane O'Hora's first league game in charge and she spoke to her troops for a lenghty spell afterwards with an away fixture against Clare next on the horizon.
