Navan cleaner than average european cities

Navan has been deemed cleaner than European norms in the Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) league and finished in 13th place out of 40 entries in the competition.
The town has dropped from a record high of 8th place last summer, but it is a major improvement on earlier surveys - this time last year Navan was deemed clean to European norms.
The Mayor of Navan, Cllr Sinead Burke, said the steady climb in the ranks over the years was testament to the tremendous efforts put in not only by Navan Municipal Council staff, but also the large number of community volunteers who continually work to make Navan a clean, attractive, pleasant town.
Cllr Tommy Reilly said it was a great day for Navan and the result was a great credit to the gardener on the county council team, a post which had been initiated by the late Navan town clerk, Shane Donnelly. He said this was a great credit to him and pointed out that a similar scheme had been started by Mr Donnelly in Cavan, which has now finished in the top four.
“I am delighted with the news. The town is looking well and it is a great credit to the workers in the former Navan Town Council area,” he said.
The IBAL survey shows towns and cities aross the country continue to scrub up well.
The final litter survey for 2014 by the business group shows a record 85per cent of our towns and cities were Clean to European Norms last year.
