Nch trad concert for mental health campaign

Sharon Shannon, Nathan Carter, Lunasa, Dervish, Andy Irvine, Paddy Maloney. These are just a few of the names that will be playing the National Concert Hall in January 2015 for ‘Walk in My Shoes’ Mental Health Campaign.

Ireland’s favourite trad musicians are teaming up for an amazing evening of music in the National Concert Hall on January 14th to celebrate the release of ‘The Burren Backroom Series’ CD. Tommy McCarthy, Irish Trad Musician and owner of ‘The Burren’ bar in Boston who is organising this event has been a supporter of St. Patrick's Mental Health Foundation’s ‘Walk In My Shoes’ Campaign, which helps to raise funds to support vulnerable young adults in Ireland with mental health difficulties.

Inspired by a 16 year old who wished his friends could ‘walk in his shoes’ to understand what he was going through, ‘Walk in My Shoes’ raises funds to provide mental health support, to young people in Ireland. Walk in My Shoes also raises awareness of mental health while challenging the stigma that surrounds it.

What started off as the #TRADTUNE Challenge, which Tommy kicked off with his own video challenge to good friend Sharon Shannon, who in turn challenged Joannie Madden & Nathan Carter. Within 24 hours, the #TRADTUNE challenge went global reaching more than 200,000 views, and developing into a trad session with well-known trad musicians coming together from all over the world to include Japan, the USA, Mexico, Australia and the UK and Ireland.

January’s special trad concert will celebrate the power of live traditional music in strengthening bonds between Ireland and America and will be a night of music and dance that’s not to be missed.

At the concert we can expect to see the Chieftains Paddy Maloney presenting and performing along with some surprise guests. The evening will also be presented by Brian O’ Donovan, a radio host in Boston.

Tickets cost €35 and are available online at www.nch.ie.
