Doodle 4 google deadline approaches

Children across Meath are being reminded to grab their pens, pencils, crayons and paintbrushes and get doodling as the deadline for entries to this year’s Doodle 4 Google competition is fast approaching.

Children have until January 8th to enter their doodles for this year’s theme of ‘My Perfect Day’. The prizes for this year’s winning doodler includes a €5,000 scholarship towards their third-level studies and the opportunity for the winning entrant to have their doodle featured on the Google.ie homepage. In addition, the overall winner and their teacher will be presented with a Chromebook laptop and their school will receive a €10,000 technology grant. Five category winners and their teachers will also receive Chromebooks.

John Herlihy, Head of Google Ireland said, “This is the seventh year of the Doodle 4 Google competition and every year I’m blown away by the talent and creativity of the entries. We’ve already received hundreds of doodles from school children across the country and it’s going to be a tough decision for our judges.”

“For those of you who haven’t entered, there is still plenty of time to do so and with the Christmas holidays coming up, we’re encouraging you all to get doodling and show us what ‘My Perfect Day’ means to you.”

This year’s judging panel of Irish and Leinster rugby star, Jamie Heaslip, legendary artist and TV presenter, Don Conroy, artist and IADT Dun Laoghaire lecturer, Cora Cummins and Niamh Sharkey author and Creator and Executive Producer of Disney Junior’s animated series, Henry Hugglemonster, will have the difficult task of selecting 15 finalists from each class group.

The 75 finalists will then have their doodles displayed on the Doodle 4 Google website and the general public will be able to vote for their favourite doodle. The winners of each category will go forward to a Grand Final event where the overall winner, as chosen by the official Google doodle team, will be announced.
