Closure at last for skrynes alisha jordan
Skryne's Alisha Jordan, who was viciously attacked with a concrete slab in New York in 2012, faced her attacker in the Bronx Supreme Court last week.
Delivering her victim impact statement, Ms Jordan said her attacker was 'a lot less scary without the concrete in your hands' and told him that he 'failed miserably' to destroy her.
While she was attacked 'for no reason at all', Ms Jordan described her scars as 'proof that I have beaten what tried to hurt me'.
Following the attack, Ms Jordan was left in a critical condition with broken cheekbones, a broken nose, fractures to both orbital bones and smashed teeth. She also lost her sight for two weeks due to nerve damage.
Ms Jordan, who was supported by 20 friends in the courtroom, spoke before the court for just under five minutes.
Her attacker, Kevin Bynum, pleaded guilty to the assault and was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by five years' probation. Bynum has been in custody since the incident in 2012.
Passing sentence, Judge Peter Benitez commended Ms Jordan on her recovery. 'I see you as victorious,' he said.
