Mcgrath adds to caps tally as irish draw with swiss

Jamie McGrath came on as a late substitute as the Republic of Ireland drew with Switzerland in the UEFA u-19 Championship qualifer at Waterford's RSC yesterday. Dunboyne's Adam McDonnell also featured.

McGrath. who is from Athboy, had featured along with Ashbourne player Kevin Toner in earlier victories over Malta (1-0) and Gibraltar (4-1). Toner however, was rested for the game against the Swiss.

Paul Doolin's side produced a top class display against Switzerland and got no less than deserved despite finishing the game with ten men after captain Noe Baba picked up a second yellow card in the 51st minute.

Switzerland took and early lead before Reece Grego-Cox later equalised for the home team.

Despite having Baba subsequently dismissed the Irish held out for a deserved draw.

Because of their two earlier victories the Irish side had already qualified for the Elite Phase of the u-19 championships before the game with the Swiss.

The three games gave McGrath and Toner excellent opportunities to enchance their international experience and they would be hoping to continue to add to the collection of caps in the near future.
