Proposals for navans bus hub to be discussed

The National Transport Authority will meet with Navan councillors tomorrow to discuss plans for a bus hub in the town.
It is believed that the Authority’s preferred option is to locate the hub at Kennedy Road, as this option has been outlined to councillors in the past.
Cllr Tommy Reilly said he believed the bus hub should be in the centre of town. His preferred option would be at the Fairgreen, but he was prepared to look at Kennedy Road.
He said he would be very concerned if it was located outside the centre of the town.
“It would be another blow for the town if it was to be moved outside of the centre of the town, for instance to the Kells Road,” he said.
He also predicted that if the hub was to be located on Kennedy Road, it would cause huge upheaval in an area where a lot of money had already been spent.
Cllr Jim Holloway said the time had come when decisions must be taken on where the bus hub will be located in Navan.
He said the National Transport Authority will be outlining one option in this regard tomorrow.
“Councillors have suggested a range of options over the many years that this subject has been on the table and no doubt will continue to outline the merits of such ideas. At some point agreement must be reached and the sooner the better. Funding is available to do the work.”
Cllr Holloway said the bus hub was a key piece of infrastructure which has implications for traffic management.
“I would like to think that both councillors and key stakeholders in Navan can take ownership of this and that we can reach the point where decisions are made and we can get to work with enthusiasm and confidence,” he said.
Cllr Joe Reilly said that he was still unclear exactly what is meant by a bus hub and had asked Meath County Council for a definition of a hub, but had yet to receive one.
He said there were ongoing discussions and it needed to come to a conclusion quickly.
