New candidate anticipated for hurling managers role
Next Monday night's Co Board meeting in Navan could have a few surprise items on the agenda for delegates to consider with a surprise candidate now in the frame for the Meath senior hurling manager's position that was vacated by Cillian Farrell after the u-21 semi-final against Kildare.
It is understood that former county player and All-Ireland SHC B winner Martin Ennis will be considered for the position in opposition to Kiltale's Paddy Kelly who was announced as the lone nominee at the last Co Board meeting on Monday 1st September.
However, Co Board chairman Conor Tormey would not make any comment about this matter earlier today, but the matter is likely to be finalised on Monday night with a preferred candidate likely to be put forward for delegates to either ratify or reject.
With the SHC final scheduled for Sunday 12th October between Kiltale and Trim, it is also understood that an appeal by the Trim club on behalf of Dimmy Higgins who was red-carded in last Sunday's semi-final might also receive a favourable hearing.
Already this year two red cards, brandished in the drawn Junior C final between St Patrick's and Blackhall Gaels, were rescinded and the players in question were eligible to line out in the replay which St Patrick's won.
