All set for start of meath crosscountry season

The Meath AAI cross-country season gets up and running this Sunday in Grennanstown, Stamullen with the featured races the men and women novice events.

In the men’s race there will be strong teams participating from clubs as Trim, Bohermeen, Dunboyne and, of course, Star of the Sea.All will be in with a chance of winning the Dan Bagnell Memorial Cup.

Among the talented athletes taking part will be Andrew Coscoran (Star of the Sea), Conor Rennicks (Bohermeen), Eoin Callaghan (Star of the Sea), Gavin Maher (Dunshaughlin) and Paul Gannon (Dunboyne).

In the ladies novice section Dunshaughlin AC will have a top selection taking part as will clubs such as St Brigid’s and Navan. Clare Ni Fhairchealligh (Dunboyne) is expected to feature prominenlty in the individual class.

The masters category will have all the age groups from 35 years upwards. The team award will be over 35 years and up to 50 years. Team of three to count.

 In that category runners such as Tommy Maher (Dunshaughlin), David O’Connell (Bohermeen) and Mick Priest (Fr Murphy) look strong enough to claim the overall prize. In the women’s masters section Karen Green is among the favourites.

The action will get underway with the Juvenile Championship involving athletes from 10 to 18 years. The first race starts at 12.0.
On Sunday, 12th October the Intermediate, Junior and Uneven Age Group championships will take place at the home of Fr Murphy AC in Frayne, Athboy. The first race sets out at 12.0.
