Pilgrim Street play Swan Lane on 3rd August.

Pilgrim Street brings high energy show to Swan Lane

Pilgrim Street is a musical collaboration that primarily infuse the styles of folk, Bluegrass, country and traditional Irish music together to create a high energy, fun packed show containing songs ranging in diversity from those that have been popular for over 50 years to more modern classics reworked and re-imagined in country bluegrass style. They are bringing their show to the Swan Lane Music venue in the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan on Sunday 3rd August next.
In early 2014, the group of long-time friends and collaborators were brought together by a collective love of the aforementioned styles of music and a desire to bring these songs to new audience and have some fun while doing so. This approach has already received some positive recognition with the band being booked to get the party started at Electric Picnic 2014 with a Friday evening slot that organisers believe will set the tone for the weekend.
Some of the members will be familiar to those who enjoy the Meath music scene, while others will no doubt become familiar to lovers of music throughout the county and beyond. The group is anchored by four members from the group Trigger and the Hitmen with Peadar ‘Trigger’ Farrelly and Richie Farrelly supplying their talents on vocals and guitar. Eoin McDonnell from the group joins them on mandolin with Francis McGinn tasked with supplying be bass lines that lock the group together.
Joining the group is Eugene Donegan who is a very well regarded musician having raised his profile and alerted audiences to talents by supporting Declan O’Rourke on various tours both in Ireland and internationally. Having Eugene in the group adds a raw energy to proceedings that perfectly encapsulates what this style of music is all about. Renowned as a top class fiddle player Cathal McQuaid adds some bounce to the ensemble on violin. No group that emulates the styles of Americana, Bluegrass and Country could be complete without a slide guitar which is electrifyingly supplied by Mark Lynch who may currently be better known for supplying lead guitar with other groups including the very popular Great Simones and Brother Shabo and the Soul Rebels.
The group will bring to life American classics ranging from the songs of Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, the Soggy Bottom Boys and Creedence Clearwater Revival through to classics by The Waterboys and a few Jigs and Reels just to ensure there is plenty of dancing. If the Garth Brooks debacle has thought us anything it is that the appetite for this style of music in Ireland is huge, if anything it may have reignited the interest in going to enjoy a live show and if that is the case then Pilgrim Street tick all the boxes.
Tickets for the show on Sunday 3rd August are €10 at the door and the music begins with the support act taking to the stage at 9pm. There will be a late bar until 2am with Klone Radio DJs playing an eclectic mix of music to round off the evening.
