'Lads mar Dads' on TG4

'Lads mar Dads' is a newly created format for TG4, funded by BAI, from Good Company Productions, on the screens every Sunday night at 9.30pm.This innovative series takes a look at what fatherhood is really like for the first timers in Ireland today. Will they be the metrosexual fathers with the man-bag on hand at all times, ready to change a nappy in any situation, or will they lapse into the traditional role of the Dad and leave it to 'those who know best'? In a world in which we are bombarded with commercial messaging and social networks – How do today’s new fathers really cope with the biggest change in their living conditions, ever!

Each week various experts discuss all things Daddy and Baby, from childrens’ allowance to the baby with reflux, to the couple planning their first night out on the town since the baby was born. We’ll have some words of wisdom from the female contingent, with doctors Barbara Kearns and Emma Kilgarriff, Social Worker Julie O’Donnell and psychologist Louise Pembroke all offering valuable advice to our three lads.

But the Dads will have their say too, with well known dads Nicky Byrne, Ray d’Arcy, Bernard Dunne and Dara Ó Cinnéide telling us how it was for them and what the lads should expect.

Filming takes place all over the country. Our first lad, Mícheál Ó Draighneáin, from Ballincollig, Co Cork, knows what it’s like to be a Dad, but he has a totally new experience in store – triplets. Donegal man, Kevin Ferry is nervously looking forward to the experience, while Richie Ó hEadhra in Ferns, Co Wexford thinks he’ll still have plenty of time at the weekends for a game of golf and a few pints.

Join us as we see if the three lads are cut out for the challenge. Who will rise to the occasion, raise the bar, change the nappies and powder and cream. Who will become Dads, and who, will still be Lads.
