Cushinstown athletes enjoy good weekend at Athlone

Cushinstown athletes showed some excellent form at the Leinster Junior, Senior and Masters Indoor Championships at Athlone IT Arena last weekend with Elizabeth Morland prominent again.

Morland competed in junior women’s events and took gold in the long jump with an impressive leap of 5.64m and also achieved gold in the 200m and silver in the 60m sprint.
She was also presented with the 2013 AAI All-Star award at a ceremony in Tullamore on Saturday night.

Donal Kearns put in a strong performance to win the junior men’s 60m hurdles. He also added a bronze to his collection when he finished third in the long jump while Shane Joyce took the gold medal in the junior men’s triple jump with a PB jump of 13.54m.

Keith Marks took home a bronze medal after he competed in the junior men’s high jump where he achieved a personal best of 2.03m. That is inside the qualifying standard for the European Youth Olympic trials at Azerbaijan this summer. He also claimed silver in the long jump.

Other Cushsinstown athletes who participated in Athlone included Luke McCabe who reached the final of the 400m junior men’s race while Niall Flannigan gave a very encouraging performance in the senior men’s 60m and 200m races.
