Dunboyne student in Hot Press writing final

Dunboyne student Michael Heavey is in the final of a competition run by Hot Press magazine and Alcatel One Touch Ireland, called 'The Write Touch'.

He wrote an article in under 300 words about his favourite music group and was one of the lucky 40 out of thousands to be shortlisted to win the grand prize of a two week internship at Hot Press, €250 cash and an Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra smartphone.

Michael explains: 'I am 17 years old and attend St Peter's College Dunboyne. I was the only contestant from Meath who got shortlisted for this competition.'

The winner from each category will be decided based on voting from the public, Hot Press and Alcatel. The public vote closes on Tuesday 14th November at 11.59pm and the winners will be announced on Tuesday 19th November.

Michael would be delighted to receive support and votes from Meath Chronicle readers.

The Original Rudeboys: An Original Sound

Anyone who has ever heard of The Original Rudeboys certainly couldn’t describe them as being dull. In fact 'dull' couldn’t be any further from the truth. Formed in Dublin in 2011, The Original Rudeboys (ORBS to their fans) are Seán (Neddy) Arkins, Seán (Walshy) Walsh and Robert Burch.

Their smooth yet distinctive combination of rap, vocals and slick melodies click together with ease; creating a fresh, vibrant and exclusive sound that is consistently reflected in their music. After you hear a song that’s been given the 'ORBS touch,' whether it’s an original like

Written Songs or a cover like Drake’s Take Care, you can’t help but absorb the feel good vibes and positivity in their instantly recognisable work.

In only their first year together as a group they sold out two headline gigs at The Academy, played a set on the Vodafone Stage at Oxegen, and released their first single, Stars In My Eyes. They released their debut album This Life, performed as music ambassadors at the London Olympics and even supported the Script on their Europe and Australia tours.

But the live gigs are what really make The ORBS stand out from other indie bands. When they appear on stage the atmosphere among the fans changes from a state of sheer excitement to complete and utter exhilaration. Having performed at over 300 gigs, and venues ranging from the Sugar Club to the London O2 Arena, it’s no wonder that the Rudeboys success is a non-stop phenomenon.

With the upcoming release of their brand new single Never Gonna Walk Away on November 24th, The Original Rudeboys have definitely lived up to the message described in their single Live Your Life  where they aspire to 'aim high and succeed, and give it all till the day that you leave.'
