Damien Dempsey

Two big names announced for Tara na Ri's Stables

Tara Na Rí will host two top Irish artists in the coming months when Damien Dempsey plays on the 7th December and Declan O’Rourke returns on the 4th January.

Both acts have played at Tara Na Rí previously; 650 attended Tara Rocks! headlined by Damien Dempsey in 2012 and Declan O’Rourke has sold out in 2012 and 2013.

Damien Dempsey released his new studio album, 'Almighty Love' in September 2012.  This much anticipated release was written in Dublin and London and recorded in New Air Studios, London.  The album has been over four years in the making and is Dempsey’s most definitive recording to date.  Produced by long term collaborator John Reynolds, Almighty Love includes performances from Sinéad O’Connor and emerging London artist Kate Tempest.

Dempsey, at 37 years old, has already said so much about self and state that trying to plough over old ground wouldn’t have been artistically challenging or fresh. So instead, he has given us an album of confidence and maturity, which has a more global sound to it and a broader scope. It is at once bigger and quieter, still rallying against injustice, yet with a more reflective and thoughtful tone, communicated more widely.

Declan O’Rourke brings his fantastic acoustic show to the Stables at Tara Na Rí on Saturday 4th January.  Declan’s previous two shows at the venue were sold out.

Declan O’Rourke came to Dublin in his mid-twenties and soon found himself trading songs with the likes of Paddy Casey, Gemma Hayes, Damian Rice as well as other top Irish singer-songwriters.

Today his songs have been covered by many artists including Josh Groban and performed by Paul Weller (The Jam) and Chris Rea.

Declan joined a stellar line up of artists in 2011 that included Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas and Amos Lee for the BBC’s Transatlantic Sessions Series 5. He has toured extensively in Europe opening for the likes of Paul Weller, Snow Patrol, Teddy Thompson, The Cardigans, Paulo Nutini, Badly Drawn Boy, Divine Comedy and Paul Brady.

Declan recently performed at the opening ceremony of the Solheim Cup 2011, and at the BBC ‘Proms in the Park’ with the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast.

O’Rourke released Mag Pai Zai, his third album, on his own Rimecoat label in April 2011. It managed to top the success of Declan’s first two albums, holding its own in Ireland’s Top 10 Album Chart for four consecutive weeks. A Little Something, the albums debut single, received much airplay, climbing to the no. 2 spot in the Today FM Top 40. Mag Pai Zai was Album of the Week on BBC Radio Scotland. Both singles released to date; A Little Something and Time Machine, were Single of the Week. Mag Pai Zai was cited as one of ‘101 Irish Albums To Hear Before You die’ by Tony Clayton Lea of the Irish Times.
