Work on new Navan Emergency Department starts this month

Work on the new Emergency Department at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan is due to start this month and is expected to be completed next summer.
The HSE has confirmed that tenders for the new facility are currently under consideration and it is intended that works will commence in October.
The new ED will be developed on the site of the existing department, which will be temporarily relocated within the hospital, while work is underway.
The new unit will have nine treatment bays including an isolation room and psychiatric treatment space along with triage room, relatives room, nurses station, reception, waiting area and other support accommodation.
While the new facility is being welcomed by hospital campaigners, they point out that ultimately it is planned to cut emergency services in Navan.
Deputy Peadar Tóibín welcomed the provision of a proper permanent ED in the hospital.
“It has functioned in sub-standard accommodation for as long as I can remember. Meath needs a fully functioning ED into the future and the Save Navan Hospital campaign will be meeting with the HSE shortly to hammer that home.”
He said they were concerned about the future of the ED within the new hospital groupings announced last May.
“The new board of directors for the group of 11 hospitals has only nine members who it is highly likely that Navan wont be represented on it
“The small hospital report also targets Navan to lose its full time Emergency Department,” he said.
