Arrests in beach murder probe

Gardai have arrested three people as part of the investigation into the murder of a 44-year-old man whose body was found on Mornington Beach earlier this week.

A woman in her 30s was arrested in the Drogheda area on Thursday and two others - a woman in her 60s and a man in his 50s - were taken into custody this morning. All are being held at Drogheda Garda Station.

The body of Audrius Butkus, a Lithuanian national, was found on the beach last Tuesday morning. He had been living in Ireland for four years.

A post-mortem examination has established that the victim was stabbed several times and sustained head injuries.
