Local girl in Riverdance record breaker

Nine-year-old Faye Sheridan from Gainstown, Navan, danced her way into the record books yesterday when she took part in the successful world record-breaking attempt for the longest Riverdance line.

Faye was one of almost 1,700 people from 44 different countries who lined the banks of the Liffey from the Samuel Beckett Bridge to the Sean O'Casey Bridge for the event, which was organised as part of the Riverdance Gathering.

Faye is pictured with her Irish dancing teachers from the Hennessy-McVeigh School of Irish Dancing, Navan, Aishling McVeigh from Riverdance and Mark Hennessy, formerly of Lord of the Dance.

Faye’s sister Chloe (14) and her mum Sharon also took part in the successful record-breaking attempt, where the dancers all linked hands and danced continuously for five minutes.

The previous record of 652 people dancing in a continuous line took place in Nashville, Tennessee, in the United States.
Dancers on Sunday were led by New Yorker Jean Butler, the lead dancer in the first ever show of Riverdance in 1994.
