Frisbee silver medals for Meath

Two Meath women claimed silver as members of the Irish team at the Beach Ultimate (Frisbee) European Championships in Calefell in Spain last week.

Yvonne Halpin from Navan and Laura McGrath (pictured) from Bettystown had to battle it out in a very compettive mixed division where they had an early scare when they lost to Poland.

They rallied successfully and were victorious against Holland, Turkey and Great Britain in the pool games.

The quarter-final brought a re-match with Great Britain and a comprehensive 13-4 victory and this was followed a semi-final win (11-9) against Portugal.

The final brought a match-up against Sweden in punishing 30-degree heat and the irish faltered at this hurdle going down 4-12 for a runner-up finish.

The Irish Open team that included two Athboy men, Eamon Cassells and James Darcey, retained their seeding and finished 14th overall.
