OPW announces sale of garda stations

The OPW has announced that the process for the disposal of three former County Meath garda stations is underway.

Minister Brian Hayes has this morning issued an invitation to estate agents across the country to express their interest in disposing of 40 of the properties. The three former stations in Meath being offered for sale are in Crossakiel, Kilmessan and Longwood.

The minister said the OPW had identified there there is no alternative State use in the properties and that the process of selling them marks the first phase of a disposal programme following on from the closure of 139 rural garda stations in the past 18 months.

He said he had received many requests from various community groups across the country expressing an interest in some of the former stations and added that he would be making an announcement in relation to this in the middle of July.
