Royals sail past Lake County challenge

Meath ensured they will face Laois in the Leinster Ladies SFC semi-final when they defeated Westmeath 2-12 to 1-9 at Summerhill today with Oldcastle's Sinead Coyle firing home two goals.

The home side had the assistance of a very strong wind in the opening half however Westmeath scored the first goal of the game through Sarah Dolan.

The Royal County eventually found their stride to take a grip on proceedings. Coyle netted her opener with a long-range shot and added a second with a neatly-taken effort. At the interval Meath led 2-8 to 1-3 and were looking good.

The Royal County played clever, controlled football in the second-half and steadily added to their account to run out comfortable winners.

Katie O'Brien, Geraldine Doherty and Shauna Bennett were among those who gave big performances for the winners.
