McDonagh's 'Cripple' for Trim stage

Opening tonight in Trim is the local drama group's production of ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’ by Martin McDonagh, a zany comedy, set in 1934 on the small Aran Islands community of Inishmaan. The story is linked to the real life filming of the documentary ‘Man of Aran’. The locals are excited to learn of a Hollywood film crew’s arrival in neighbouring Inishmore to make a documentary about life on the islands. Cripple Billy Claven, eager to escape the gossip, poverty and boredom of Inishmaan, vies for a part in the film.
Directed by Kevin Shelly, The Cripple of Inishmaan sees various island characters trade stories and chat while a young man tries to make sense of who he is. A great cast of characters, a bit like ‘Father Ted’ meets ‘John B Keane’. A load of laughs (and some tears) are guaranteed. With Mags Lynch and Patricia Hehir as the Osbourne sisters, Eoin Kenny as young Cripple Billy, his pals, Bartley and Helen, played by Craig Regan and Katy Leech, and Town Gossip, Johnnypateenmike, Frank O’Reilly and Mother, Mary Clemenger. Completing the great cast are Niallie Fagan as BabbyBobby and Kevin Martin as Doctor McSharry.
It runs until Sunday 28th April, in Scoil Mhuire, Patrick St, Trim, at 8pm nightly. Tickets (€12/€10 concession) from James Allen Hair Design, Haggard Court, Haggard St, Trim (046) 943 7500 or on the door.
