Mullagh drama group for All-Ireland

Mullagh-based Millrace Drama Group is competing in the All-Ireland Drama Finals on Friday 26th April, for the first time, in Rossmore, Co Cork, with 'Trad’ by Mark Doherty.
The cast and crew have put in an unbelievable amount of work and rehearsals in the last six months, and there will be a final chance to see it this Tuesday night, 23rd April, in Mullagh Hall, before it travels to Cork. The incredible journey to date to reach the All-Ireland has been very rewarding as they completed the festival circuit with no less than six first place festival awards along with a multitude of acting, technical, stage and directing awards.
'Trad’ tells the hilarious tale of Da (Liam Daly) who learns that his 100 year-old son Thomas (Darragh Smith) has fathered a child many years ago. This information forces them to travel a journey to find this child and successor to the family line. They encounter an aged and cranky old woman called Sal and also a hard drinking priest Fr Rice who helps them piece some history together on their quest to locate Thomas’ son. Conor Shaffrey from Moynalty plays the dual role of Sal and Fr Rice in this production. Their journey is choreographed brilliantly and well complemented by the traditional music produced by two musicians from Carnaross, Stephen O’Brien and Willie Corrigan, which creates a powerful feeling to this production.
Trad is directed by Paddy Farrelly from Shercock, the current chairman of Shercock Drama Festival. Paddy has also designed the lighting and sound for this play.

There is free admission to Tuesday night's performance, and refreshments served.
