Chris Kavanagh on tour with the Dubliners in 2011.

Barney McKenna anniversary

Fans of Barney McKenna and The Dubliners are coming from as far away as Germany, Austria and Denmark to Trim for his 1st anniversary mass on Sunday 7th April at 12.30pm in St Patrick’s Church and many are attending a special concert at Trim Castle Hotel on Friday 5th April 2013.
Chris Kavanagh will perform “The Legend of Luke Kelly” at Trim Castle Hotel on Friday night.
Supporting “The Legend Of Luke Kelly” on the night will be Trim’s very own gifted singer and songwriter, Gerry Tully.
Michael Howard from Howth, the world renowned classical guitarist who toured with The Dubliners across Europe will also perform. Michael was with Barney in his home in Howth when he died last year. He composed a song entitled “The Blackbird” about Barney after his death.
Although this concert is not being advertised as being Barney’s anniversary, there is a great love for him among the artists and a dedication to honouring Barney’s memory on stage at this concert is certainly on the cards.
The McKenna family will also be in attendance along with some of Barney’s closest friends.
Lead Singer, Chris Kavanagh toured in Germany with The Dubliners and also features on their last 50th Anniversary DVD as a special guest.
