Fr Nicholas Dunican funeral on Monday

The death has occurred of Very Rev Fr Nicholas Dunican, who as parish priest of Johnstown and Walterstown, Navan, saw his parish explode in population with the development of Johnstown. Fr Dunican, who retired in 2007, died at Knightsbridge Nursing Home, Trim. A native of Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath, he was ordained in 1959. Following ordination, he worked in the Diocese of Ossory, returning to Meath in 1965 to take up an appointment as curate in Delvin. He subsequently served as curate in Kingscourt and Kells before his appointment to Johnstown in 1988. He is survived by his sister, Imelda Campion and brother Seamus, brother-in-law John, sister-in-law Margaret, nieces, nephews, Bishop Michael Smith and his brother priests, relatives, former parishioners, and his large circle of friends.
Fr Dunican's remains will repose at St Joseph’s Chapel of Rest, Old Johnstown, Navan, on St Patrick’s Day from 3pm, with removal at 6.30pm to Church of the Nativity of Our Lady, Johnstown, arriving at 7pm. Funeral Mass on Monday, 18th March, at 12 noon, with burial afterwards in the church grounds.
