Geraghty's Gold at Cheltenham

Barry Geraghty landed the big race on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival when he brought Bobs Worth with a late run to win the Gold Cup today.

Bobs Worth, the 11/4 favourite, looked in trouble before the turn after been hampered by the fall of Silviniaco Conti three from home.

Long Run and Sir Des Champs battled tussled into the straight, but Bobs Worth got going again and overhauled Long Run going before the final fence.

Geraghty had seven lengths to spare at the post.

“I'd love to be happier. All we can all think about is John Thomas McNamara. I hope and pray to god that John Thomas is okay,” said an emotional Geraghty in a post-race interview on Channel 4.

Geraghty had extra reasons to be pleased as he purchased Bobs Worth as a yearling.

“It's brilliant. He's a gorgeous horse. He has a great attitude as he never travelled and struggled on the ground but kept fighting,' commented the Drumree man who won the Champion Chase on Wednesday.
