Raid on Clonalvy Post Office

Two bungling masked raiders who carried out a robbery at Clonalvy Post Office this morning dropped the cash as they made their getaway. The two men, one of whom was wielding a knife, tried to escape in a car which was parked outside, but they ended up making their getaway on foot. Gardaí in Ashbourne are investigating the robbery which occurred at 9.40am The two men entered the Post Office and threatened staff with a knife. They demanded cash and fled the shop with an undisclosed amount of money. As they were leaving the shop they dropped the cash and after their attempt to escape in a car, they both left on foot. It is believed that both men then stole another car but abandoned it a short time later. Garda units assisted by the Garda Air Support Unit immediately searched the area and arrested two men (both in their 20's) in connection with this investigation. They are currently detained at Ashbourne Garda Station under Section 4- Criminal Justice Act.
