Oldcastle walk broadcast

Oldcastle received a major tourism boost on Wednesday morning when RTE's John Murray Show featured the previous Sunday's walk in the town which attracted 1,500 walkers. The town came across as a great place to visit and as an ideal location for walkers in the show, which was recorded the previous Sunday. One of the biggest crowds ever to take part in the John Murray Show walking club descended on Oldcastle for the 12km route from Oldcastle to Loughcrew and back again. The walk moved off in the direction of Millbrook and there was entertainment along the way from the Louise Smith Academy of Irish Dance, and the Farrelly family who treated everyone to great traditional music as the walkers passed by. John Murray chatted to many people on the way, including Meath football legends Sean Boylan and Colm Coyle. The Celtic Tenors joined the walk and sang acapella while walking. !On arrival at Loughcrew Gardens, there was a very welcome hot cup of tea and a brilliant performance by the Celtic Tenors and Deirdre Shannon, with some special guest turns from local people including Fr. Ray Kelly, PP of Oldcastle, who gave a rendition of Love Changes Everything. After the singing at Loughcrew, the walkers headed back towards Oldcastle where they were welcomed into St. Oliver's Post-Primary with hot soup, tea, coffee and biscuits and more music, this time from the Oliver Plunkett branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Éireann.
