Hefty suspensions handed out

Lengthy suspensions totalling 60 weeks have been handed out by the Meath Co Board after a melee broke out involving players and officials near the end of an SHC between Gaeil Colmcille and Drumree at Longwood. Four Gaeil Colmcille players, including prominent referee Conor Ferguson and his son Fionn were both handed 12-week suspensions. Team-mates Niall Flanagan and John Morris each received eight weeks while Drumree mentors Paddy Doyle and Ronan Curley were hit with 12 and eight-week bans respectively. The game was abandoned by referee Marcus Quinn when the melee broke out close to the final whistle.
