McDonogh winner at Downpatrick

Moynalty trainer Des McDonogh made a welcome visit to the winners' enclosure at Downpatrick today when 33/1 shot World Citizen won a handicap hurdle. Owned by Hugh Newell from Drumree, a son of Colonel Newell, it was his first winner with McDonogh with whom he has a long association. World Citizen was also bred by Hugh Newell out of his own mare Miss Topoftheworld which only ran three times on the track. The six-year-old was never closer than seventh in nine previous outings and was 14th of 15 in a handicap hurdle at Roscommon at the beginning of September. The trainer's last winner was a 66/1 shot at Roscommon last May. The stewards requested a report on the 'improvement' of the winner compared to the last run which was a return to the track after a five-month absence.
