Changes for Aintree start in 2103

Changes aimed at improving safety have been announced for the start of the 2013 Aintree Grand National. The start will be moved approx 90 yards closer to the first fence which will effectively reduce the distance by about half a furlong from its current four and a half miles. The starter's rostrum will be moved to a more favourable position and the starting tapes will be more visible. The aim of the changes is to make for a calmer starting area for horses and jockeys and the reduced distance to the first fence may slow the early pace a little
