'The Real McCoy' at Ramor

Following sell out shows in Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and a very successful run in Chicago 'It's The Real McCoy', a new Irish three-act comedy comes to the Ramor Theatre, Virginia, on Friday June 15th and Saturday 16th June at 8.30pm. The play is set in rural Ireland in the mid 1960s and its main character is Madge Molloy who has spent over 40 years of her life in despair following the disappearance of her husband for no apparent reason. The role of Madge is played by Leitrim native Eileen Slevin who has performed with a number of groups in the area and is no stranger to the Ramor Theatre. What unfolds on stage has to be seen to be believed. The new parish curate Fr Michael McCoy gets news about her estranged husband and his wishes to return to her to explain why he left. However, Madge has to contend with the fact that her only child Maura has fallen in love with the local postman Martin Daly and she doesn't approve. She also has regular full blown confrontations with the two nosiest neighbours in Ireland - namely Nora O'Hora - played by Deirdre O'Meara - and her daughter Cora. The play is packed with plots and sub-plots, two love stories, a confused curate, a gormless postman and a woman who has a lot of anger and frustration to release! Reaction to this new play has been remarkable and it comes from the pen of broadcaster Tommy Marren from Sligo. Tommy is the main current-affairs presenter on Midwest Radio and this is his follow up to his first production called 'The Banshee of Crokey Hill' which scooped eight awards at the Derry Drama Festival a number of years ago. A limited number of tickets are still available from the Ramor Theatre on (049) 854 7074 or log on to www.ramortheatre.com for more details.
