New Kells SVP shop set to open this week

The Kells chapter of the St Vincent De Paul Society will open its new shop at Market Street tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 10am. A team of volunteers have been busy over the past few weeks preparing for the opening of the new premises, which is considerably larger than the old shop at Newmarket Street. SVP volunteers have been pricing over 5,000 items of clothing, which will go on sale in the 2,500 square foot store. All of the clothes have been donated to the society and, according to spokesman, Tony Byrne, some of these are designer items. "We would like to thank everybody for their generous support. We have had so much clothes and bric-a-bac donated to us and such a lot of physical and organisational help as well," he said. "There are people who have worked from 8am to 8pm to help get the shop ready," he added. The shop will open from 10am to 2pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for the time being and will be manned by a total of 36 volunteers. All funds raised will go to help people in the Kells area. According to Tony Byrne, it is certainly the place in Kells to go to pick up a bargain.
