Mountcharles reveals plans for distillery at Slane Castle

Slane Castle owner Henry Mountcharles is hoping to lodge a planning application for a state-of-the-art distillery and heritage centre in the castle grounds before the end of the year. The proposal comes following the decision of the new owners of Cooley Distillery, the international group Beam, not to supply whiskey to independent operators, including Slane Castle. The proposed investment in the distillery and heritage centre - which would be located in the old stable yard at the castle - would run into millions of euro and would create local employment, as well as ensuring a reliable source of the award-winning Slane Castle Whiskey blend. Slane Castle whiskey was launched three years ago at the Oasis rock concert and is a unique blend created at the Cooley Distillery by Henry Mountcharles and his son, Alex.
