GAA club confirms exodus of young from Trim

The chairperson of a local GAA club that has been "decimated" by emigration has said he is not surprised by recent figures which showed a stark drop in the numbers claiming welfare benefits in Trim. While every club in the county is experiencing losses to emigration to some degree, Trim GAA Club has been one of the hardest hit, According to club chairperson CJ Murtagh, Trim has lost 11 players to emigration from the hurling team which reached the semi-final of the championship in 2010. Mr Murtagh said the club has lost a minimum of six players each year for the past two years and that two have left so far this year, while four more are due to leave the country early next month.
