Hylands at Watergate Street in Navan has been opened four months.

Deep-fried pride as chip comes in for Hyland's

Recently opened Hyland's Traditional Fish & Chips in Navan was named runner-up in the Irish Times list of 'Best Chips in Ireland' as voted for by the newspaper's readers and published last Saturday. The Watergate Street shop was second only to the long established McDonagh's in Galway and Lennox's in Cork who shared first place and they came in ahead of many well-known household names. Hyland's opened its doors on Watergate Street in November last and word has slowly spread of their fresh, homemade fish, chips, burgers and sauces. They were by far the newest venture to be featured in the Irish Times list, quite an achievement for a shop that has been opened for just over four months. And customers can enjoy reading from bygone issues of the Meath Chronicle as Hylands have pasted old pages of the paper on the wall in the waiting area, carrying news from the 1960s, '70s and '80s, offering a touch of nostalgia, as fish and chips were traditionally wrapped in newspaper.
