Gardai warn gun clubs as firearems thefts surge

Gun-owners throughout the county are being warned to be especially vigilant following a surge in house break-ins where firearms are being specifically targeted. Firearms-holders have been warned that they should ensure their weapons are secure as they are being targeted in burglaries, according to Meath crime prevention officer, Sergeant Dean Kerins. He has warned that there has been a significant increase in the number of burglaries in the past two years in which firearms have been the target. Following an analysis of these break-ins, the results have been relayed to gun clubs in the county in an effort to warn licensed firearms holders of the dangers. "Everybody who has a firearm should ensure their firearms are properly secured as there is criminal intent on stealing them in current times," Sgt Kerins said.
