Frank Loughran... sold trumpet for £20 in 1966.

What goes around, comes back around...

In 1966, Meath man Frank Loughran sold his trumpet when he moved to England for work. He had learned to play the instrument at school, but didn't think he would play again and sold it for £20 before he left. Fast forward some 40 years later, and the Ashbourne man thought he might like to take up the instrument again. He borrowed a trumpet and found he could still play, so he set about looking for a second-hand one. He checked out an advert in 'Buy and Sell' and went to take a look at it - and was amazed to discover that it was his original trumpet which he had sold all those years ago before departing for the UK! Mr Loughran is now one of two Meath musicians involved in the 'Blow the Dust off your Trumpet' orchestra, a project of the National Concert Hall's Learn and Explore programme. Eileen Murphy from Garlow Cross, Navan, is also a member of the orchestra, playing violin. The Blow the Dust Orchestra is designed to encourage older people who once played instruments, to take them out of their cases, dust them off, and join fellow musicians in forming an orchestra.
