Meath joy in Sigerson Cup

There were at least seven Meath players in action for their respective colleges in the Sigerson Cup yesterday. Five players were involved with NUI Maynooth as Kilmainham's Michael Newman scored the winning point to give them a 0-13 to 1-9 win over Queen's, Belfast. Newman was joined on the Maynooth team by St Ultan's Kieran Lynch and Summerhill's Davy Dalton who featured in the full-back line. Dunboyne's Craig Berrigan operated at midfield with Newman top scoring in the full-forward line. Dunshaughlin's Fergus Toolan replaced Berrigan as a second-half substitute. Newman finished with four points (three frees), while Berrigan chipped in with two points. Donaghmore/Ashbourne pair Bryan Menton and Eoin Reilly played in the half-back as DIT needed extra-time to see off Carlow IT by 1-14 to 0-11.
