O'Rourke returns to Knightsbrook in 'Victors's Dung'

Moth Productions, in association with The GAA Social Initiative and Calor, present 'Victor's Dung', written, directed by and starring award-winning actor and former Leitrim footballer, Seamus O'Rourke. The play will be on a fundraising tour of GAA clubs nationwide throughout February, March and April 2012, and will visit Trim, hosted by Kiltale GAA. Victor's Dung is the comic tale of Victor Maguire (played by O'Rourke, RTÉ All-Ireland Best Actor 2010), a crude un-PC Cavan farmer. Set in a farmyard, complete with dung heap, the play takes the audience on a whirlwind tour through Victor's somewhat sad and unconventional life, meeting up with many a strange bucko along the way. "Victor's Dung is hilarious. As a comedy play it is way up there. The production, the set and the actors are top class. Seamus O'Rourke's presentation is fabulous and he manages to knit in some serious and thought-provoking themes into a marvellously funny show," says Finbarr Murphy from St Judes GAA, Templeogue. "I am delighted to be working with Seamus again after the successful tour of Shane Connaughton's 'The Pitch'. "Seamus is a phenomenal talent, and Tommy Sharkey and Charlie McGuiness are superb. "It's a cracking cast. I am also very pleased to be continuing the relationship with Calor. They are fantastic sponsors," says producer, Will Govan. Calor's Marketing Manager, Oliver Kenny, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to be associated with this hugely successful production. "Not only are these plays highlighting great Irish acting talent they are, thanks to the GAA Social Initiative, reaching out to rural Irish communities and bringing people together in a social context in clubs across the country. As Ireland's leading supplier of LPG to communities all over Ireland, we understand the value of these initiatives and are proud to continue our sponsorship as the productions and the GAA Social Initiative grow from strength to strength." The Moth Productions team are looking for individuals or groups to perform before the start of the play. 'We think this is a great opportunity to showcase local talent,' says production manager, Karina Charles. 'We want to make it a really special night for the whole community.' The GAA Social Initiative arose as a result of former president Mary McAleese and her husband Martin noticing an absence of older men in attendance at official functions during their many visits to local communities over the years. It is now being relaunched as a club-based, island-wide project, utilising the GAA club network as a vehicle to achieve the greatest reach into all our communities.
