Memorable day for Kells

Dear sir - The invitation by the caithaoirleach, Cllr Brian Collins, to the Chinese Ambassador, his excellency Mr Luo Linquan and his wife, will, I hope, bring changes for the better to our town of Kells. Already a large crowd of Chinese people will be visiting next Sunday to enjoy the closure of the Chinese New Year. Our esteemed guests were welcomed by the cathaoirleach and the local Garda Superintendant Seamus McGowan, followed by a visit to the Kells Handball Club, where they watched an exhibition by four All-Ireland champions. The ambassador indicated that he was so engrossed with the handballers' skills that he would like to return again. A special word of thanks to the MC in the club, Patrick McGovern, who excelled himself in welcoming our special visitors. The visit to St Colmcille's house, Headfort House and Headfort Golf Club were all wonderfully received, and well done to everyone involved. The civic reception in the town that evening was attended by a large crowd representing all sections of our community who listened to our cathaoirleach welcome our guests, speaking in Gaelige, English and concluding with the Chinese language, bringing great applause from those present. In conclusion, may I say well done to the cathaoirleach and I look forward to the future that this special day will bring fruition with good results to Kells. Yours, Cllr Tommy Grimes, Kells Town Council.
