Tullaghanstown granny scoops €22,100 on TV show

Caught up in the excitement of cheering on some of the players from her local Dunderry GFC taking part in a white collar boxing fundraiser at Trim GAA Club on Saturday week last, GAA fan Carmel O'Callaghan didn't hear the continuous ringing of her phone. The person on the other end of the line was one of her sons calling to give her the good news that she had just been pulled out of the drum to appear on the following weekend's National Lottery 'Winning Streak' TV game show, but it was her granddaughter, Katie, who eventually managed to get through to her later in the night to impart the good news, much to the delight of her grandmother. Carmel, from Tullaghanstown, Navan, won a total of €22,100 on last Saturday's show, held at the RTE studios. Married to husband Henry for 45 years, the couple have three sons, one daughter and nine grandchildren. Carmel actually purchased the scratch card herself at Hannon's Centra, Commons Road, Navan, but was busy on that Saturday evening and forgot that she had a card that could be in the 'Winning Streak' draw. She and her husband were at the white collar boxing event in Trim to raise funds for their local Dunderry GAA Club when members of her family were trying to get through to her on the phone. She said she would love a new car and plans to carry out some house improvements with her winnings.
