Ashbourne firm named Logistics Company of Year

Caffrey International, based at Ashbourne, has been awarded the Logistics Company of the Year Award by the Irish Exporters Association. The award was announced at an event in the new Convention Centre in Dublin in recognition of the contribution that Caffrey International has made to the success of Irish exports. Caffrey International was established by Brian Caffrey at Coolfore, Ashbourne, more than 40 years ago. It was one of the first Irish-based transport companies to offer an international service, and has since grown into a considerable enterprise, currently giving employment to more than 100 people. It has developed in a sustained way to become one of the strongest transport companies in the country and enjoys an unrivalled reputation in the industry. The company provides transport, warehousing and distribution services in Ireland, the UK and throughout Europe, covering both ambient and perishable cargo, and catering for all consignment sizes from single pallets through to full loads. The panel of independent judges was impressed by this range of services, and by Caffrey International's ability to provide efficient, cost effective and sustainable logistics solutions for exporters of all sizes, from start-up companies right through to the multinationals. Brian Caffrey and his family continue to develop the company, with sons Mark and Bernard actively involved as part of the senior management team. They now operate a modern fleet of more than 65 trucks and 125 trailers, and provide both ambient and chilled warehousing facilities. Apart from the local base in Ashbourne, Caffrey International has expanded into Europe by opening an office in Poland. The company attributes its success to the combination of traditional values with investment in technology and innovation. The award was presented by Minister of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, to Mark Caffrey, general manager of Caffrey International.
