Kingscourt Brass and Reed Band play for cancer fund

Kingscourt Band will play this Sunday, 11th December, in Murtagh's Lounge, Kingscourt, from 4pm-6pm in aid of the Kingscourt Cancer Fund. Local are invited to enjoy a selection of Christmas and festive music and song, some entertaining pieces from the band's recent concert at Cabra Castle, including the 'Three Little Pigs' novelty piece, including a slide show of drawings by local schoolchildren. Entry is Free. Cabra Castle was a magnificent venue for the band's recent concert, and the large ballroom was filled to capacity for what proved to be a most enjoyable evening. Under the baton of Lorcan Daly, members of the senior band played from an extensive repertoire, including 'The John Williams Trilogy', themes from 'Schindlers List', 'Raiders of the lost Ark', 'Jurassic Park', highlights from 'Les Mis', 'Lord of the Dance' featuring Sinead O'Connor and Mairead Farrelly's 'Riverdance performance'. The percussion section's performance of 'Concerto for Drum Set and Concert Band' was very impressive and Kevin Smith wowed the audience with his solo performance of 'On the Track' on xylophone. The junior band and beginner band also gave splendid performances, conducted in turn by Rosemarie Shields, Shane Smith and Kieran Holt. These 40 youngsters onstage promise a bright future for Kingscourt Band and, with an additional 23 young members coming up the ranks, the band looks forward to a busy and rewarding time ahead. The three sections of the band were treated to many encores and even a standing ovation from a delighted audience.
