Mayor heaps praise on residents at St Finian's Terrace celebrations

Four babies were among the 150 past and present residents of St Finian's Terrace, Navan, who celebrated the centenary of the estate last week. The centenary was marked by a celebration in the nearby Navan Library, where Mayor of Navan, Cllr Anton McCabe, hosted the festivities. It is 100 years since the Navan terrace was built. Among its many former residents is Hollywood star, Pierce Brosnan. Cllr McCabe said it was great to hear that although St Finian's Terrace is 100 year- old, a new generation of residents is starting, with four beautiful babies present at the celebrations. He said the terrace holds many memories for the families who have resided here over the years. Some are sad memories, but in the main, the residents have happy memories of their time living there. "There is no doubt that St Finian's Terrace is recognised as the home of many of Navan town characters, some became famous in Hollywood and beyond, but the real characters stayed put to entertain the people of Navan," he said. "My own perception of St Finian's Terrace is that I have always seen it as the gatekeeper of our town, as it stands majestically overlooking it. "If the troika ever decide to plunder our town, the residents of St Finian's will see them coming and raise the alarm so our army can group to defend ourselves," he quipped. The mayor said that Navan Town Council has, over the past year, carried out some great work on the green areas of St Finian's Terrace, which is now one of the most attractive areas of the town. He applauded the local residents for taking a stand against the proposed development of the Fair Green, "I supported your campaign and will continue to do so if the issue ever raises its ugly head again," he said. He said that a history of St Finian's was being chronicled by Liam Bennett and he looked forward to the launch of his book, which would make good reading for residents, past and present.
