Carberry in the frame after Late Late
Paul Carberry, fresh from his appearance on The Late Late Show where he was promoting his new book 'One Hell Of A Ride' was the man to follow at Fairyhouse on Saturday. Carberry teamed up with trainer Noel Meade for a double in the opening two races and then went on to complete a hat-trick before moving to Limerick on Sunday to win a chase with former champion hurdle contender Muirhead. Leceile made all the running for an easy win in the first race at Fairyhouse while Dylan Ross, owned by a syndicate from Clogherhead, won a maiden hurdle and will be entered for the Royal Bond Hurdle. Texas Jack completed the Fairyhouse treble in a maiden hurdle to follow a victory in the Goffs Landrover Bumper on his only start last April, "He's a nice horse and hopefully will keep going the right way, he will go for a two and a half miles novice hurdle next," said the trainer. Slane handler Pat Martin and Navan jockey Andrew Thornton were also on the mark at Fairyhouse with Lucky Spring which defied top weight in a handicap hurdle. Muirhead won the feature race at Limerick on Sunday when the Meade-trained eight-year-old landed the Munster National Handicap Chase. Drumree jockey Barry Geraghty completed a first and last race double at the Munster track. Ross Geraghty has also enjoyed some success in the USA where he is in his third season. Last week he enjoyed a good win with the Rebecca Curtis-trained Black Jack Blues at Virginia Falls with the American Grand National next on the hit-list for the former runner-up in the Welsh Champion Hurdle. That race will take place at Far Hills, New Jersey on Saturday 22nd October.
